Melanoma (skin cancer)

Melanoma rates in Queensland are 36% higher than national rates and the highest in the country. 58% of cases in 2007 were male.  Living in the sunshine state means we want to get outside as much as possible, and of course there are those of us that spend a lot of time outdoors for work.

While in years gone by you could have a ‘healthy tan’ we now know that there is nothing healthy about getting a tan.  Wearing a broad-brimmed hat, applying SPF 30+ sunscreen, finding shade and covering up as best you can when outdoors is the best way of protecting yourself from skin cancer. If you notice changes in moles, or any irregularities with your skin, see your doctor.
