Five ways to be sun safe

Most of us know to ‘slip slop slap’, but did you know there are actually five ways to protect yourself from the sun?

1. Shade Get in it when you can. Seek shade from trees and buildings or take shade with you.
2. Clothing Cover up as much as possible. Dark colours and close weave fabrics are best.
3. Hat Broad brimmed to shade your face, ears and neck.
4. Sunglasses Wrap around is best. Find a pair that meets Australian standard AS/NZS 1067:2003.
5. Sunscreen Water resistant, broad spectrum SPF 30+ applied 20 minutes before going outside. Reapply every two hours.

Think about what you’re wearing. Make sunscreen part of your morning routine. Always grab your sunglasses and hat before you go outside. Walk on the shady side of the street. Keep spare hats and umbrellas in your car or bag.

Remember to protect yourself in five ways.
